Paul Morrissey Ltd is an independent commercial theatre production and general management company based in London, working across the West End, UK and internationally.

Led by producer and general manager Paul Morrissey, PML has worked with productions at every stage of their commercial life — from assessing an initial idea and building the financial model, through development, financing and production, to opening night and beyond.

With more than 25 years' experience across commercial theatre, PML combines the creative instincts of a producer with the financial and practical discipline of a general manager. That means understanding not only how to make a production happen, but what needs to be true for it to work.

Our work ranges from major West End productions and international transfers to new plays and musicals, UK tours, concerts and special live events.

Recent General Management includes Burlesque the Musical at the Savoy Theatre in the West End, executive produced by Christina Aguilera; Rosie the Musical at the Adelphi Theatre; and Nadia Manzoor: Disobedient at Park Theatre. Most recently, PML opened a new production of La Bamba: The Song of Veracruz at City of Dreams in Sri Lanka.

As producers, PML has developed and delivered work from its earliest stages through to major commercial production. La Bamba!, starring Siva Kaneswaran and Pasha Kovalev, premiered at Curve before playing the West End, touring the UK and subsequently receiving a non-replica production in Mexico. Graziano Di Prima's Believe toured extensively across the UK, while other productions built from the ground up, have included When Darkness Falls and Wickies: The Vanishing Men of Eilean Mor.

PML's wider producing and management history includes major productions of Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story, Howard Goodall's Days of Hope, Chess and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, alongside the development of new and original work including Payback the Musical, Toys the Musical, and the European premiere of Brooklyn.

Our concert work has included Les Misérables in Concert, South Pacific in Concert and Tonight at the London Coliseum, featuring performers including Ramin Karimloo, Sharon D. Clarke and Carrie Hope Fletcher.

PML also created The West End Men, one of the first musical-theatre supergroups, which has performed in London's West End and internationally across Europe and Asia, most recently with the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra.

Paul Morrissey is a recipient of the Stage One Bursary for New Producers and a member of the League of Independent Producers.

Today, PML is focused on producing and packaging ambitious commercial theatre, providing General Management for UK and international productions, and helping producers establish the financial and practical feasibility of projects before significant capital is committed.

At Paul Morrissey Ltd (PML), we work differently.

WE START WITH THE QUESTION: CAN THIS WORK?

Before a theatre is booked, significant capital is committed or a production moves into rehearsal, there are fundamental questions to answer.

What will it really cost?

What will it cost to run?

What does it need to take at the box office?

Where should it play?

How should it be structured?

And what needs to be true for the production to work?

With more than 25 years' experience producing and managing theatre and live entertainment in the West End, across the UK and internationally, we bring practical production experience to the earliest commercial decisions.

We build and interrogate production budgets, weekly operating costs, break-even models and recoupment schedules. We look at venues, capacities and ticket pricing; staffing and company structures; rights and royalties; marketing; technical requirements; international travel, CoS / visas and accommodation; international logistics; tax relief (where applicable); and the practical timetable required to get a production on stage.

But production feasibility is more than building a spreadsheet. A budget can tell you what something costs. Experience helps you understand whether those assumptions are realistic, where the risks sit, what has been missed and what could be done differently.

Sometimes the conclusion is that a production is ready to move forward. Sometimes it needs to change. Sometimes the numbers reveal that it should not proceed in its current form. Knowing that before significant money has been spent can be enormously valuable.

Our feasibility work can stand entirely on its own. Producers can commission PML to assess a project, build its financial model and provide an experienced commercial view without any obligation to engage us beyond that stage.

Where a production does move forward, PML can stay with it; through development, financing and planning, or as General Manager responsible for delivering the production through rehearsal, opening and operation.

This means the thinking does not have to stop when the feasibility study ends. The same team that helped establish whether the production could work can help make it work.

We work with UK producers, international producers bringing work to Britain, rights holders, investors and creative teams considering productions in London, the West End and theatres across the UK.

Whether the starting point is a finished production looking for a London home, a new commercial project, an international transfer or simply an idea and a set of ambitions, the first conversation can happen early.
